Earring
Description
This piece is a small lunette-shaped bronze earring. It features a hollow interior and inscribed with a repetitive s-curve design on the front. The earring’s border and front face feature a series of incised dots, resembling twisted wire. Additionally, there are 5 small hoops (now filled with debris) along the edge, which most likely once were connected by metal links for decoration. There was once presumably another piece of metal connecting either end of the crescent, acting as a clasp. Otherwise, the piece is in moderately good condition.
Date
Estimated to be 1st-12th centuries since Syrian comparanda of the same time period most closely match the department’s earring stylistically.
